PHP is a widely-used general-purpose scripting language that is especially suited for Web development and
can be embedded into HTML. Midnight/MU is predominantly written in PHP with some Javascript client-side scripts to complement it.

If PHP is the brain of Midnight/MU, then MySQL would be the heart. This was chosen as our back-end
database of choice due to its availability, stability and performance.

The ubiquitous HTTP server, Apache has been the most popular web server on the Internet since April 1996, and being free it's also
very handy for local Midnight/MU development. Nice and solid, with widespread support.

Since we have moved to a team based development model, Subversion has become an integral and indispensable part
of our development arsenal. Subversion is an open source version control system now regarded as the de-facto choice for most team based developments.

The successor to HTML 4, the eXtensible Hypertext Markup Language is HTML defined as XML.
This site is designed to pass the World Wide Web Consortium's XHTML 1.0 validation process in
order to make Midnight/MU accessible to as many modern Web browsers as possible.

Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) is a stylesheet language used to describe the presentation of a
document written in a markup language. Midnight/MU uses CSS extensively and is designed to pass the
World Wide Web Consortium's CSS validation process.
