The Fauna of Midnight/MU
The lands of Midnight/MU are also inhabited by wild creatures, some dangerous, some benign. These are not of concern to marching armies, as they are generally too shy and move away, but they can be quite dangerous to the lone traveller.
However, they can also be of good use to the latter: most animals can be hunted down for food when stores are scarce. Also, as dragons do not feed off stores, they need to forage around for wild animals to rely on food supply.
These are the animals that can endanger a lone traveller. They can be fought or avoided.
Wolves roam the land and are to be encountered in all terrains except marshland. They will disperse in the face of an army but lone lords should be wary, they may be attacked if the wolves are hungry.
Bears can be found around the landscape and should be avoided, They will scatter in front of an approaching army, but lone lords should beware the danger of such beasts as they can be more than a handful for the unwary traveler.
These animals are of no danger to lone travellers. Instead they can provide a welcome steed or a much needed hot meal.
Wild horses can be caught and used as steeds by most races. Thus warriors can mount up and become riders, gaining extra speed when travelling. They can also be stabled at garrisons, or riders can simply dismount if required. Unlike most other wild animals, horses do not move away when an army passes, as they are used to the noise.
Horses make a delicious meal for a dragon, too...
These animals roam mostly on the plains and form a common part of the landscape and could provide a good food source for Lone lords, but present no danger. They will scatter from the noise of nearby armies
